Why God Would Not Want You

There are many reasons why God would not want you. But don't worry. You're in good company:

Moses stuttered.

David's armor didn't fit.

John Mark was rejected by Paul.

Hosea's wife was a prostitute.

Amos' only training was in the school of fig-tree pruning.

Jacob was a liar.

David had an affair.

Solomon was too rich.

Abraham was too old.

David was too young.

Timothy had ulcers.

Peter was afraid of death.

Lazarus was dead.

John was self-righteous.

Jesus was poor.

Naomi was a widow.

Paul was a murderer. So was Moses.

Jonah ran from God.

Miriam was a gossip.

Gideon and Thomas both doubted.

Jeremiah was depressed and suicidal.

Elijah was burned out.

John the Baptist was a loudmouth.

Martha was a worry-wart.

Mary was lazy.

Samson had long hair.

Noah got drunk.

Did I mention that Moses had a short fuse?

So did Peter, Paul - well, lots of folks did.

But God doesn't require a job interview. He doesn't hire and fire like most bosses, because He's more our Dad than our Boss. He doesn't look at financial gain or loss. He's not prejudiced or partial, not judging, grudging, sassy, or brassy,

not deaf to our cry,

not blind to our need.

As much as we try,

God's gifts are free.

We could do wonderful things for wonderful people and still not be. . .

Wonderful.

Satan says, "You're not worthy."

Jesus says, "So what?  I AM."

Satan looks back and sees our mistakes.

God looks back and sees the cross.

God doesn't calculate what you did in '78.  It's not even on the record. Sure. There are lots of reasons why God shouldn't want us.

But if we are seriously in love with Him, if we hunger for Him more than our next breath, He'll use us in spite of who we are, where we've been, or what we look like.

Step out of your limitations into the illimitable nature of who God is.

--Bible Verses to Ponder--

Jer 1:4-10 (TLB)

The Lord said to me, {5} "I knew you before you were formed within your mother's womb; before you were born I sanctified you and appointed you as my spokesman to the world."

{6} "O Lord God," I said, "I can't do that! I'm far too young! I'm only a youth!"

{7} "Don't say that," he replied, "for you will go wherever I send you and speak whatever I tell you to.

{8} And don't be afraid of the people, for I, the Lord, will be with you and see you through."

{9} Then he touched my mouth and said,

"See, I have put my words in your mouth!

{10} Today your work begins, to warn the nations and the kingdoms of the world. In accord with my words spoken through your mouth I will tear down some and destroy them, and plant others, nurture them, and make them strong and great."

1 Cor 1:24-31 (TLB)

{24} But God has opened the eyes of those called to salvation, both Jews and Gentiles, to see that Christ is the mighty power of God to save them; Christ himself is the center of God's wise plan for their salvation.

{25} This so-called "foolish" plan of God is far wiser than the wisest plan of the wisest man, and God in his weakness--Christ dying on the cross--is far stronger than any man.

{26} Notice among yourselves, dear brothers, that few of you who follow Christ have big names or power or wealth.

{27}Instead, God has deliberately chosen to use ideas the world considers foolish and of little worth in order to shame those people considered by the world as wise and great.

{28} He has chosen a plan despised by the world, counted as nothing at all, and used it to bring down to nothing those the world considers great,

{29} so that no one anywhere can ever brag in the presence of God.

{30} For it is from God alone that you have your life through Christ Jesus. He showed us God's plan of salvation; He was the one who made us acceptable to God; He made us pure and holy and gave himself to purchase our salvation.

{31} As it says in the Scriptures,

"If anyone is going to boast, let him boast only of what the Lord has done."
